EPQ
In Year 13, I completed an Extended Project Qualification, thoroughly planning and researching the impact of COVID-19 on restaurant architecture.
WHAT IS MY PROJECT ABOUT?
-
My project looks at how architecture can play a role in enabling making restaurants COVID safe during the pandemic.
-
I focused my question on the future of restaurants to be able to look at more architectural solutions to make restaurants COVID-safe rather than short-term solutions.

PRIMARY RESEARCH
-
To support my secondary research I planned to conduct interviews with local restaurants to see how COVID-19 affected their restaurants
-
I also attempted to contact MASS DESIGN GROUP
-
An architectural group that also carry out research projects like my one.
-
-
Not having made something like this before, I emailed the firm I did old work experience with, for an idea on where to begin and what to use.
-
I also used YouTube videos to know how much detail I would need to include in the model and how to make my own elements on AutoCAD from scratch

MY MODEL

MY MODEL
-
I used polyester boards for the walls and a thicker version for the base
-
I printed the table and plants onto sticker sheets so I could produce a layout without cluttering the design with 3D objects
-
I used model trees and grass to make the outside environment
AUTOCAD
-
I made a basic floor plan on AutoCAD to obtain a general idea for my layout before making my model.
-
I annotated it with the reasoning behind the design features

WHAT I LEARNT FROM THIS
-
Gained new skills:
-
e.g AutoCAD, how to build an architectural model
-
-
How to design and present a floor plan from scratch
-
Research techniques
-
Where to find reliable informations tailored to a specific field
